About Me
I'm Mel Nigro (they/them), a genderqueer writer and artist. I love reimagined fairy tales, witchy mythology, and class analysis. My college thesis was about the impact of cultural change on adaptations of Peter Pan, and I will happily talk your ear off about the ways that story has changed over time.
I grew up on Kumeyaay land in California, and I'm currently living on Dakota land in Minneapolis. I spent six years working in the San Francisco Bay Area theatre scene, where I created art and designed materials primarily for Shotgun Players and Bay Area Children's Theatre. I also photographed many events, performances, and rehearsals, and provided artists with portraits and headshots.
I moved to the Midwest in 2019, worked as a graphic designer and photographer at the University of Minnesota, and currently work as a graphic designer for the Minnesota Historical Society. I also volunteer at Boneshaker Books, a collective bookstore. I spend my time writing, taking care of plants, and trying out new ways to make art.
In all the work I do, I focus on making things beautiful and bringing people joy. I love working with other artists and spending time in the queer community - if any of my work is your jam and you'd like to make something together, let me know!
