Children's Media

I worked for Bay Area Children's Theatre for several years, and during that time created designs within many iconic children's brands, as well as having the opportunity to create new art of my own.

Bay Area Children's Theatre

For this project, I worked on the art direction and execution of assets for a retelling of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This retelling put the focus on the joy of Charlie's moment of discovery, and our marketing focused on capturing that nostalgic holiday charm. I took inspiration from old Quality Street candy ads and the art style of Mary Blair to evoke the energy and retro vibe of the production. For press, I staged and edited publicity photos featuring Juan Castro, who played Charlie Bucket.

Old Macdonald: Beyond the Farm

Year

2018

Client

Bay Area Children's Theatre

Bay Area Children’s Theatre produced an interactive, immersive theatre experience for patrons between the ages of one and four. It told the story of Old MacDonald as she traveled from place to place to bring back gifts for her friend Duck (hence, "Beyond the Farm"). In addition to the print and web materials, I designed the backdrop for the set, which was printed on several panels that wrapped around the stage. Finally, I took production stills of the show, featuring actors Phil Wong and Jackie Kappes.

Client

Bay Area Children's Theatre

For this show, I created a series of assets to promote a rock and roll version of Alice in Wonderland. For the title, I collected mismatched vintage marquee letters and altered their colors to match the neon palette. I also art directed and shot publicity photos to promote the show, featuring actors Amanda Nguyen and Andrew Mondello as Alice and the White Rabbit.

Client

Bay Area Children's Theatre

Bay Area Children’s Theatre produced a version of The Cat in the Hat that was in both Spanish and English, so all of the collateral had to be in both languages. I designed a poster that worked with Theodor Geisel’s iconic art and translated that design to all of the print materials.

The Night Fairy

Year

Client

Bay Area Children's Theatre

In this project for Bay Area Children’s Theatre, I worked on the art direction and execution of assets for their adaptation of The Night Fairy. I designed and illustrated the poster with input from the artistic director, and created a series of assets to support the initial design - including publicity photos of the actor, Kaleena Newman, that we sent out to press.
